The Vichy Regime was the government of France between 1940 and 1944. The regime, led by Philippe Pétain and based in the town of Vichy, collaborated with the German occupiers and pursued a policy of authoritarianism and antisemitism. The regime deported Jews to the German Reich, conscripted French men for forced labour in Germany and persecuted political opponents. The Vichy regime came to an end in 1944 when Paris was liberated by the Allies.
