Glossary

Special courts were set up by the Nazi government to prosecute acts of resistance and other infractions. The special courts also punished alleged or actual misconduct by forced labourers from Western Europe. Proceedings before the special courts were notorious for their lack of constitionality. Sentences ranged from fines to the death penalty, and increased rapidly towards the end of the war.
