Repatriation was the systematically organised return of Displaced Persons (DPs), mainly former forced labourers, to their home countries by the Allied occupying powers after the end of the war. Not all DPs could be repatriated and some decided to emigrate, mainly to escape discrimination and persecution in their countries of origin. A large number of DPs from the Soviet Union were repatriated against their will.
