Term used to describe the collaboration of individuals or groups with an enemy. The term was used to describe cooperation with the Nazis or support for the German occupiers by individuals, groups or a government. In many countries, collaboration with the Nazi regime was punishable by death. Returning prisoners of war and forced labourers, especially those from the Soviet Union, were often accused of collaborating with the Nazi regime.
