Stalags were prisoner of war (POW) camps for non-commissioned officers and enlisted men, established, administered and run by the Wehrmacht. Stalag was the common military term for the camps. Prisoners of war were registered in a Stalag and then assigned to their various labour detachments. Captured officers were interned in an “Oflag” (officers' camp).
