Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP)
Founded in Munich in 1919 as the German Workers’ Party and renamed the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (NSDAP) in 1920. The party was soon led by the so-called "Führer", Adolf Hitler. Thanks to his alliance with the conservative camp, Hitler was appointed Chancellor of the Reich on 30 January 1933. The NSDAP then established a totalitarian one-party state. Organisations such as the SA, the SS and the Hitler Youth (HJ) were affiliated to the party. By early 1945, the NSDAP had about 8.5 million members.
