General Building Inspector for the Reich Capital City

Generalbauinspektor für die Reichshauptstadt (GBI)
This special Nazi government body headed by Albert Speer, later Reich Minister of Armaments, was initially responsible for the construction of the redesigned city of Berlin as the Reich Capital. Hitler even considered renaming Berlin to Germania. In the course of the war, the GBI undertook other construction projects as well, including the construction of air raid shelters and approval for Ostarbeiter camps. The GBI built and ran its own forced labourers’ camps in Berlin as well.
