Antisemitism

Hostility towards Jews was widespread in Europe since the Middle Ages. In the modern era, it developed into a form of racial antisemitism that defined Jews as a “race”, ascribing to them certain characteristics and blaming them for social, political, cultural and economic problems. Antisemitism aims at the exclusion and oppression of Jewish people and, in its most extreme form, genocide. Antisemitism was the central element of Nazi ideology.
