Anti-fascism arose in response to the rise of fascism, first in Italy in the 1920s and later in Germany and other countries in the 1930s and 1940s. People from different political, social and cultural backgrounds joined together in groups to fight fascism. Today, anti-fascists and others continue to fight right-wing extremism and neo-Nazism.
